Creating a Circle for Women – Denderedzwa

On the 13th of May 2026, something very close to my heart came to life.

Nyimbo zaKwatu began as a platform to celebrate music, culture, and creative expression. Over time, I found myself longing for something more. A space where women could gather, not only to perform or create, but to speak, listen, learn, and reflect together.

That vision became Women’s Denderedzwa.

Launching this new conversation arm of Nyimbo zaKwatu at Alliance Française de Harare was a truly special moment. More than 100 women creatives and allies filled the room, bringing with them their experiences, wisdom, questions, and stories.

I was deeply honoured to welcome voices from visual arts, media, legal practice, music, the creative economy, festival management, founder spaces, academia, and storytelling. Each person contributed something unique to the conversation, creating an atmosphere of openness, empowerment, and genuine connection.

Together, we explored two powerful topics.

Women Harnessing AI in the Creative Sector, featuring myself, Anesu-Tendesai Chikumba, Nothando Chiwanga, and Vivian Mutasa.

And The Power of Being: Stories, Struggles and Success, featuring Tariro Chaniwa, Becky K, Charlene Chiriseri, and Tatenda Mushoriwa.

What moved me most was not just the expertise in the room, but the honesty. The willingness to share lived experiences, celebrate victories, acknowledge challenges, and imagine new possibilities for women in the creative sector.

Guided beautifully by our moderator, Rutendo Denise Musasiwa, the conversations created space for reflection, healing, and action. They reminded us that our stories matter, our voices matter, and our collective wisdom is one of our greatest strengths.

Women’s Denderedzwa is more than an event. It is a circle. A space for meaningful conversation, connection, and community. A place where lived experience meets insight, and where we continue building something larger than ourselves.

As I looked around the room that day, I felt immense gratitude. Gratitude for every woman who showed up, shared, listened, and contributed to the conversation.

This was only the beginning, and I cannot wait to see where the circle leads us next.
