Mary Anibal is an award-winning Zimbabwean singer, songwriter, and mbira virtuoso whose work positions her as a prominent voice in contemporary Afro-fusion music. Rooted in Zimbabwean musical traditions, her artistry draws on ancestral rhythms while incorporating modern influences to create a sound that is both culturally grounded and globally relevant. Beyond performance, Anibal is a committed advocate for women’s rights, weaving themes of empowerment and social justice into her music. In recognition of her contribution to the preservation and innovation of traditional music, she received the Zimbabwe Music Award for Best Traditional (Chinyakare/Chimurenga) in 2023.

An accomplished international performer, Mary Anibal has showcased her music at major festivals and cultural events worldwide. Her appearances include the Habari Africa Festival in Toronto, Canada; Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar; and the MASA Festival in Côte d’Ivoire. She has also performed extensively in Europe, with shows in Germany, France, and Switzerland, where her dynamic stage presence and masterful mbira performance have introduced diverse audiences to Zimbabwean musical heritage.

In September 2024, she released her debut album Maria Wenyu, which received critical acclaim for its fusion of tradition and contemporary sound. She followed this with the release of the single “Bhonzo” in April 2025, a song reflecting resilience, determination, and the Zimbabwean spirit. Through her music, Mary Anibal continues to champion cultural pride and social change. Mary Anibal was recently on tour in Germany.
