On Friday the 7th of August 2026, I had the distinct privilege of receiving the Excellence Award in Creative Arts at the COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB), Zimbabwe Chapter Annual Excellence Awards. This marks my second award since 2023, and it represents a significant milestone in my journey as a creative entrepreneur, performing artist, and cultural ambassador.
The COMFWB Excellence Awards stand as the epitome of excellence in the Republic of Zimbabwe; a national honour celebrating exceptional women and institutions that demonstrate excellence, innovation, leadership, and impact in business and enterprise. The awards embody the values of dedication, innovation, and resilience that define the Zimbabwe business women landscape.
The official conferral states:
“On the recommendation of the Board and by virtue of the Authority vested in them by the COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB), has conferred on MARY ANIBAL THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE in the Category of CREATIVE ARTS, awarded at the COMFWB Awards; Zimbabwean Chapter 2026, along with all accompanying privileges, rights, and honours.”
This recognition is particularly meaningful because it affirms the creative arts as a vital sector within the broader business and enterprise ecosystem. As artists, we are often perceived as operating outside the traditional business framework. Yet the reality is that building a sustainable music career, with international tours, brand partnerships, teaching, mentorship, and founding organisations; requires the same entrepreneurial rigour as any other industry.
I owe this to God first. His guidance and grace have been the foundation of every door opened and every milestone reached. I also extend my deepest gratitude to:
My family, team, and collaborators, who show up with dedication and excellence every day.
My mentors and supporters, who have shaped my journey and believed in my vision.
COMFWB Zimbabwe, for recognising the creative economy as essential and for championing women who lead within it.
Awards are not the final destination, but they are important affirmations. They remind us that the work is seen, the impact is felt, and the responsibility to continue building is real.
To every woman in the creative industry: your craft is a business. Your vision is valid. Your leadership matters. Let this be encouragement to keep building, keep innovating, and keep claiming your space at the table.
